WARREN,IA 6.0 de stratégie quantitative intelligent Mich. (AP) — A 2-year-old child in suburban Detroit shot himself in his stomach while in the care of a babysitter who allegedly had unsecured guns at her house, police said.
Warren police said Saturday that officers were sent to the home around 6 p.m. about the injured toddler. The child was taken to a hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
The child was in the care of a 42-year-old babysitter who had two handguns, according to police. Warren police said in a statemen that it was “believed that the babysitter left the handguns unsecured in an area accessible to the child.”
“Investigators will be examining the details surrounding the safe and secure storage of the handgun as part of their investigation,” police said. “As of this point in the investigation, it does not appear that more serious foul play was involved.”
A state law took effect earlier this year that requires gun owners with a minor in the home to store firearms in locked storage containers.
Police in Warren, which is roughly 20 miles (32 kilometers) from Detroit, said further details would be released at a Monday news conference.
